Swim ABC

Zwemclub ABC Amstelveen
Your child is in good hands at Zwemclub ABC.
Learning to swim is vital in our water-rich country. We not only live near water but also enjoy being in the water. That's why it's important for children to learn to swim at a young age. The foundation of learning to swim is the Swimming-ABC, a passport to a lifetime of swimming and water fun.
National Swimming Diplomas A, B, and C.
The Swimming-ABC consists of three National Swimming Diplomas: A, B, and C. The Swimming-ABC is aimed at children from the age of 4 years. Diplomas A and B are valuable intermediate steps, but those who hold the complete Swimming-ABC have truly become a friend of the water. With the National Swimming Diploma C in hand, you meet the National Standard for Swimming Proficiency.
The first series of swimming lessons.
At the Swimming-ABC, a lot of attention is initially devoted to making children water-ready. This is a very important period in which the foundation for learning to swim is laid. Children learn to float on their front and back, enter and exit the water, turn from front to back and back to front, submerge underwater, look underwater, and search. These activities help children become familiar with the water and feel comfortable in it.

Many exercises are offered in the form of games, as this is the best way for young children to learn. So, do not think that the child is merely playing in the water. Each game serves a purpose. After this period of becoming water-ready, it is time for the next phase: learning the swimming strokes.
Swimming strokes and additional skills.
At the Swimming-ABC, children learn four swimming strokes from the beginning: elementary backstroke, breaststroke, front crawl, and back crawl. A lot of attention is given to various exercises in deep water, such as different ways of entering the water, swimming underwater, climbing and clambering on a raft and on the edge of the pool, and diving to the bottom. These skills teach a child how to handle unexpected situations and enjoy the water.
What can you do with each swimming diploma?
The National Council for Swimming Safety has linked levels of swimming proficiency to National Swimming Diplomas. Your child meets the National Standard for Swimming Proficiency with swimming diploma C. Diplomas A and B are intermediate steps in this process. These levels are designed to align with the Dutch swimming infrastructure where both adults and children swim:
Swimming Diploma A: You master skills for a swimming pool without attractions.
Swimming Diploma B: You master skills for a swimming pool with attractions, such as a (wildwater) slide, a wave pool, and a current.
Swimming Diploma C: You master skills for a swimming pool with attractions and in open water without currents or heavy waves, such as recreational lakes and wider canals (except the sea). With this diploma, you meet the National Standard for Swimming Proficiency.
Swim ABC
The Regular Program
The National Council for Swimming Safety (NRZ) associates each level of swimming proficiency with a diploma from the Swimming-ABC program. With the regular program, we can assist your child in obtaining their Swimming-ABC diploma in a reasonably short time.

Fun and safety come first!
First and foremost, we focus on making your child comfortable in the water through playful activities until your son or daughter feels relaxed and free from fear. Additionally, we gradually develop the four swimming strokes: elementary backstroke, breaststroke, front crawl, and back crawl. We also dedicate a lot of attention to exercises in deeper water, such as entering the water, swimming underwater, climbing and clambering on a raft, diving to the bottom, and swimming with clothes on. Our approach involves teaching, practicing, and conditioning. This way, your child will embark on a journey to swimming proficiency with enjoyment and pleasure.
Every last class of the month, we organize clothing swimming following the guidelines. For the C diploma, this activity takes place weekly.

Obtain the one and only Swim ABC diploma with us

In the Netherlands, anyone can offer swimming classes and issue a swimming diploma, as it is not legally regulated. Unfortunately, not all different swimming diplomas always lead to the same National Swimming Safety Standard.

However, we hold the National Swimming Diploma License and undergo independent assessments each year by the National Swimming Safety Council (formerly National Platform Swimming Pools | NRZ). This ensures that, as a parent, you can be certain that the swimming lessons and swimming diploma comply with the most recent quality criteria, laying the foundation for a lifetime of swimming pleasure and safety.
This provides you, as a parent/guardian, with 4 assurances:
Certified and qualified swimming instructors, ensuring your child is in safe hands and enjoys swimming lessons. Our swimming instructors adhere to the Swimming Industry Code of Conduct, possess a Certificate of Conduct (VOG), and continually receive further training.
Your child will receive the National Swimming Diplomas A, B, and C. Obtaining the National Swimming Diploma C means your child meets the National Swimming Safety Standard. These official diplomas are recognized, for example, by the fire brigade, police, and sports training programs for various professions.
The swimming teacher follows a clearly described swimming lesson method, enabling you to choose the best provider for your child. During the swimming classes, you will also be well-informed about your child's progress.
Consistent quality from the swimming teacher, ensured through independent annual inspections and assessment moments during the diploma swimming tests.

Below you will find an overview of the additional swimming lessons we offer. Need more information? Feel free to contact us.

Snorkeling
At Swim Club ABC, you can learn snorkeling. Snorkeling is a water sport where you can look underwater while swimming, using a diving mask and snorkel. This allows you to see the most beautiful fish underwater during your vacation and enjoy fun water games. Often, swim fins or flippers are also worn.

If you enjoy being in the water but want to try something different from what you learned for your A, B, or C diploma, snorkeling offers pure fun and adventure at the same time. Snorkeling is easier than you might think, and anyone can learn it. Plus, you'll make new friends along the way.

Take on a new challenge and see the pool from a different perspective! For those interested in the underwater world, our snorkel diplomas provide a great foundation.

To participate in our snorkeling lessons, you must have at least your B diploma.
For the snorkeling lessons, you will need snorkeling equipment, which includes a snorkel, diving mask, and swim fins. The use of a wetsuit is allowed if desired.

Save yourself and your friend
A group of enthusiastic instructors stands by the poolside weekly, guiding children towards achieving their ABC swimming diploma. Following the ABC diploma, children can participate in our advanced training at Swim Club ABC Survival Group. After completing the ABC swimming program, children are capable of self-rescue in various water situations. However, for the Survival Group, this is just the beginning – in fact, the real journey starts here. The Survival Group offers a post-ABC swimming program focused on Survival and Rescue Techniques.

Throughout the entire program, there is ample focus on improving swimming strokes and endurance. It is essential for "rescuers" to be strong swimmers and have a certain level of fitness before they can assist others in need. The children's self-reliance is also further expanded through the learning of survival techniques during the lessons.

The training begins with the introduction of rescue skills using both aids and rescue equipment. It is crucial for the children to learn to recognize hazards and be equipped with coping mechanisms. During the lessons, the children will learn how to handle difficult situations when they find themselves in trouble. They will also be taught how to identify drowning victims and take appropriate, safe action. The acquired rescue skills must ensure the safety of both the rescuer and the victim.
